My October 2013 Favourites

Image

Another month, another list of favourites. October was a gorgeous month here in Vancouver where the rain only graced us with its presence on the last few days October. For a city known as Raincouver, this is a rare occurrence. However, even with the sun shining, the weather brought upon itself, tradition autumn weather. Some of my favourites reflect the change in weather and some were just random discoveries while shopping my stash.

I will start with some skincare favourites. The first and second are by Cerave, specifically the Foaming Face Wash and Moisturizing Cream. These are both classics and just great all around products for maintaining a simple but effective skincare routine. I especially love the Moisturizing Cream because it manages to hydrate but also absorb directly into the skin leaving little to no oil residue. The cold weather wrecked havoc with my lips, as did my constant wear of matte lipsticks, so I slathered Aquaphor Healing Ointment on my lips every night to inject extra moisture into my lips. This stuff is pretty much like Vaseline but without the icky plastic smell and taste.

For face makeup favourites, I have been paying special attention to the concealers I have been using and loving MAC Pro Longwear Concealer and CoverGirl & Olay Simply Ageless Eye Concealer. The MAC Concealer does a great job at covering blemishes and its liquid texture allows it to hydrate dry and flakey spots. The pump on this concealer is horrible and releases too much product so I have been decanting it into a small pot as to not waste any product. The CoverGirl concealer is a godsend for undereye concealing. It provides just the right amount of coverage (anything too cakey under the eyes is a no-go) and does not crease. Unfortunately, it has since been discontinued but if you ever see it out and about, do not hesitate to pick it up (as it should be on clearance)!

The eye products that I have loved in the month of October are ones that I used to love but forgot about as I discovered others in my collection. I am so glad to have dug them up again to truly appreciate how great they are. MAC Added Goodness Fluidline is a gorgeous deep grey with a hint of purple mauve. It is a great eyeliner because while it is not black, it still manages to define and flatter the eye as how eyeliner should. I have been doing looks with this eyeliner, mascara and two shadows from the Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette that I also love. The two shades in particular, Snakebite and Suspect are gorgeous when mixed together and smudged on the lower lashline. The final look is a perfect smokey but not too dark eye look and it only takes minutes to put together.

Finally, some lip product favourites, as expected. The YSL Rouge Pur Couture Lipsticks in Rouge Bergamasque and Beige Tribute have made their way into my lipstick loving heart to take the place of my most worn lip colours of the month. These two have been great paired with the eye look I mentioned above and for other days I do not feel like fussing around with dark high-maintenance lip colours. They are smooth, creamy and pigmented. The packaging is luxurious and the scent is divine. The only drawback is their lasting power, they do not last as long as some other matte counterparts but for nude shades, I can live with it. The last favourite of this month is one that I featured in my Looking Inside My Bag post and it is the Dior Addict Gloss in Fairy Pink. This is a product that makes me happy just when I look at it. I describe it as a cheery, bright, bubble gum pink and it applies exactly so on the lips. It is great for giving a fresh glossy pout to a dull face that needs a bit of a pick-me-up. The Dior Addict formula is one of my favourite lipgloss formulas and everytime I apply this colour, I remember why. The texture is sticky enough to last but not so much to feel like goop. It also fades away beautifully so I do not have to constantly worry about reapplying.

If you made it to the end of this essay, thanks for reading. These monthly favourites posts are sure to be some of my longer ones so thanks for sticking with me. I promise that I will try to condense them down a little bit in the future but it is hard, I pretty much just want to spew out all my love for the products that I enjoyed in the month.
